Know I've noticed that this is sort of a touchy subject, but with the way that the exhaust is set up on my 64 F250 I have problems seeing the headers NOT helping. My exhaust is as follows: The drivers side manifold is upturned, and off of the front of it there is a crossover pipe, that connects with the front of the passenger side manifold, and from there goes into a 1 and 1/2 inch pipe that goes through a burnt out, rusted, blowing-itself-apart in my driveway, twenty year old original looking muffler.
I know everyone has opinions on this subject, but I'm pretty sold on the idea. I think that I would need to relocate my oil filter, It looks like it would get kinda crispy down there. Does anyone know how this would be done? Also, where would I get headers to fit? The motor mount would not be a problem, I only have one that I can see, it is on the front of the engine.
I also have a 292 with the exhaust that you describe. It seems to run very well with this set-up, but it is not good if you want to run dual exhaust. In this case, headers would be the way to go, because stock manifolds for this motor that dump out each side are rare and expensive if you can find them. Sanderson headers makes a very nice looking set of headers for this application, plus they offer the option of Hot Coating. Supposed to fit very good, too.
You may check the links here, but if you do a search on one of the big search engines for (REDS HEADS) or (REDS HEADERS) I think you will find a source. I can't say this is the cheapest place to buy them, heaven knows 292 headers are higher than your average set.
