they make a primer to put over plastic (you still need to prep it correctly) but it is suppost to help out adhear to plastic then you can put reguar paint ontop of it. maybe ask then question on the 87-96 forum somone on there not to long aso posted pictures and how he did it on there.

1978,
I just did my '80's silver headlight bezels AND my grille black.
I cleaned, sanded them fairly well, masked the areas off, primed them with Rustoleum grey primer then applied several coats of Rustoleum FLAT black.
The headlight areas I used Rustoleum's metalic silver.
It was time consuming but worth the effort. Unless you have a show machine or a REALLY nosey gawker, it looks D@mn good at 10 ft!! Cost $15.00 + my time.
