internet picture posting
I see a lot of pics of people that have been put on the internet that came from blogs, home videos, e-mails. The pictures with the highest hits needless to say, are the ones of people caught in funny or embarrassing situations. Are there any privacy violations/copyright issues involved when people keep passing these pics on to other people say via e-mail or thru BBS forums , with no permission from the subject person/s? ...
Do the people that have these pics of them on the internet sign away their right to privacy somewhere along the line ? How does this posting of peoples pics on the internet work anyway, from a copyright/privacy standpoint ? What if a person has a embarassing picture of them out on the net, that was unknowingly taken by a cell/cam user ? ...
My wife gets a lot of funny e-mails/ pics from her cousin, that I would love to link them out on here. But, I dont want to violate anyones rights to privacy or cause problems on the site here, by doing so before getting informed. thanks

my wife does alot of photography and posts it on the internet. the good ones she puts her name off on the side but i don't think there is any legal thing about it.
i have seen sites that have some programs that keep people from downloading thier pics.
also my wife has been threatened before that she will get in trouble for displaying pics of people she takes of and posts them, i say as long as it is in public, then it is legal to do as long as she is not making up something about them that they didn't do.
It's kinda like talking face to face with someone and they take your picture with a camera; what are you going to do, you can ask for the film, or for them to delete the picture from the camera, but unless you specifically ask that they don't record your video broadcast or take screenshots then you have no recourse.
If it comes off the movies, radio or TV, it's probably been copyrighted. There is a loophole called Fair Use that most of these email things fall under. For the most part, Fair Use makes it legit to pass these around. http://fairuse.stanford.edu/Copyrigh...view/chapter9/
Hey bf, here's a link your wife might want to check out for her pics. http://www.copyrightwebsite.com/defa...w/FairUse.aspx

What I do not understand is, when a person opens links or funny emails pics and passes them on, how does one know there is a blantant copyright violation being committed, if any ? If the person passing on the net info is not creating income from it, or editing the material causing it to become what it is not meant to be, is their harm being done that could become a litigation case ?
I use both these sites.
