cutting out a bed floor
#16
What is the bed gonna be used for, like does it have to have ribs and look OEM ... or is it a "working bed". Is it gona be covered over after finished?
I once bought a 5' x 10' piece of 11 gauge steel sheet at metal crafter friend's shop, cut length to bed floor length and simply cut out to go around wheel wells, letting floor overlap galvanized inner sides by 6" and muliti-bolted the overlap to the galvanized inner sides. I used excess and some other to also plate front wall but it has a likp after braking that welded to the new floor. I just left the original bed under it as it was only rusted in a seam area. I also bolted the new floor to original in a few places and provided drains. Covered it all with unused paint and then drop in. Recently brushed in a gallon Iron Armor bed liner, then covered it with a new drop in.
Only goof IMHO was should have drilled small marker holes for bed bolt locations, but I can map them from below if they are ever needed.
I did not require that the floor look OEM.
