Ford calls this GVWR, should be the same thing? It's actually the brake type rating for complete vehicles, not for buses & motor home chassis.
It's the 4th letter in the VIN for 96-99:
M=19500
L=16000
K=14000

Actually, I'm referring to the combined weight rating, ie- truck + trailer. The truck's GVWR tends to refer to just the truck itself, so about 8800 lb for a 3/4 ton, and I think most of the 1 ton's go about 9900 up.

Believer is correct. My 94.5 5 apeeg manual has a 4:10 axle and is good for 20,000 combined. Brakes are ABS as well.
Keep in mind when towing, that no matter what it is rated, you are always better off giving yourself a buffer zone.
