I have a 65 f100 three speed. I have the problem of high rpms at 70 mph Ive replaced the gears in the rearend with the tallest gears available (don't remember the ratio off the top of my head). My dad had a 62 with an overdrive unit. Does any one know where i might find one and how much it might possibly cost. I just recently put a new 352 in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.
Walter this is an observation that I made. If your truck came with an I6, it probably came with 3.75 gears, a 352 3.25, A 352 can pull a 3.00 easily or a 2.75 if you are looking for slower rpms and more economy. Your truck could have been specked differently.
You can do the rotation test to get an idea of your ratio.

In the still cool hours of the night, you can hear chevys rusting away.
The best in overdrives is the gear vendors unit. they have their own web page, search under GearVendors Under/overdrive. their unit consists of three pieces, an input housing, the overdrive, and the tail housing. The overdrives are all the same, .78 to 1, and they can be run behind different transmissions or T-cases by changing the input housing. The units work in any gear, allowing you to 'split' gears, a 3 speed can be a 6 speed. The only reson I don't have one yet is the 2.2K to 2.6K price tag, depending on the input housing you need, they are available for almost anything. DF
John, you are right, 2,200 $$ will still buy alot of gasoline. Especially when I have 2.75's and tall tires just sitting around, waiting for something to do. Cal
I have 3 Borg-Warner 3 speed w/overdrive units for sale. One light duty and 2 heavy duty. They are passenger car units (slip yoke instead of bolted). They are $100 each or 3 for $200. If one of these will help, Email me for details.
