Hey all,
I submitted a post a month or two back, asking if anyone could identify the radius arm drop brackets on my truck. I think the setback is something awful on the front end. I eventually contacted tough country about some new drop brackets and was going to order them this week, and while spraying PB blaster on the bolts and such, noticed that the P.O.'s had WELDED THE FLIPPIN' BRACKETS ON!
I saw a spot weld on the outside and said easy money to grind off, but the whole back side is welded.
I wonder if I can just put a spacer in front of the drop bracket in order to move the front differential forward about an inch or so.
Sounds like fun-
How much setback are we talking here? If it was something like 1/2" or so, I give it a solid maybe, but anything beyond that and you'll run out of threads on the rear of the radius arm. You want at least two threads beyond the nut, and there isn't much more than that stock.
Might be time to hit it with the torch and replace the brackets.
Wow, I have thrown tack welds on to prevent someone from stealing them, but, weld the whole back side, that is pretty stupid.
I bought a BII were the PO had welded the exhaust system to the exhaust manifold to fix an exhaust leak. It worked for a while. Trouble was when it stopped working
lol, P.O.'s can sometimes be the dullest knives in the drawer I'll admit. Well, as of this morning the suspension has taken a back seat. The timing chain( I think) broke on the way to a meet.
I'll find out in a day or two
i bet the blts wouldnt stay tight and the po got tired of them movie ng around....i have never seen ttb drop brackets, or even monobeam radius drop brackets that would stay tight under moderate to ahrd use.....
i guess im trying to say your new ones may be a problem too, depending on how you use your truck
you know the skyjacker ttb lifts tell you to weld the i beam drop bracket on the right beam to the crossmember
LOL, not really. Thats a great weld. These guys didn't know the meaning of wire feed speed on the welder. Got lots of little bits of wire all over the backside like a porcupine. Oh well, depending on the engine damage from this morning I may make a few changes to the suspension. I'll have the time, for sure
Looks like you were trying to do something different, this PO seems to have just been to lazy/cheap to buy the hardware and install it properly. I have had to remove stuff welded on by a PO before, it sucks.
