Im doing the balljoints and wheel bearings on my 76 F250 4x4 D44 LP passenger side. Did the drivers side last month. My u joint came apart and eggshelled the yokes on both the inner and outer.
My question is (before I take it all apart)
Will the inner and outer axle shafts from my 77 F150 HP D44 fit in my 76 F250 4x4 LP D44 HD axle? I already have it here with a brand new u-joint in it ready to go. Just wanna make sure it'll fit.
I agree, it should....the ones that are different are the older ones I think it was 72 and back, I've run into this.....but the older ones WILL fit, just not the way they should, but I've still run em' neways before!.......but w/ the newer axles on both, you should be set!, good luck!
they should, the axle shafts should be the exact same. the older ones are easy to tell the differece, the ears and the U-joints themselves are smaller than than the later ones (from 73-79) I am almost positive, but not %100
I just wanted to say, they're not gonna fit. I needed some shafts and researched the different axles and found out that they are something like 3/4in longer/shorter.
yea I know the older ones are longer on the pumpkin side of the wheel joint, but they still fit in the housing enough to get ya home, I've done it, I've run it, I've never had a problem! but the right axle is probably better. I would go w/ the newer axleshafts just because they have larger U-joints on them. but I didn't know they used those shafts all the way till 76? when I ordered all the seals and wheel joints for mine, they listed the 73-79's as the same, and the 72's and back as different.......I dunno I try to stay away from D44's
