Stock 56 Headlights
What options do I have to get slightly brighter headlights since I will be keeping my generator setup and really don't want to re-wire just yet. The sealed beams in the truck might well be original equipment. The last time I drove it, they were not quite bright enough.
Are the currently available sealed beams any improvement or do I really need to think about re-wiring and running Halogen lights? (Even a modest improvement would likely be acceptable.)

2. 6V systems were commonly equipped with headlight relays (aftermarket) to eminate voltage dropping with the wire sizes supplied.
3. Old sealed beams drop in brightness as they age. But many times the problem is bad grounding of the headlight buckets to the grille, and or bad grounding of the grille. put a voltmeter on the lights when they are on and make sure of the grounds.
4. There is nothing wrong with a generator system. The only reason to run an alternator is when things that draw a lot of current, like an A/C are run when the car is driven in traffic at night.
5. Halogen lights are a terrific improvement, and also age better. They do not require rewiring as they draw the same current.

It only involved running one heavy wire to the relay and then hooking the headlight wires to the relay. The original wire which runs through your switch only has to carry enough current to close the relay. So, keep relays in mind if you are not enlightened after the bulb replacement. Jag
