I've recently installed new door gaskets on my 64. I'm reinstalling the doors and having a wonderful time trying to realign the doors. The gasket tends to keep the doors from closing all of the way. Has anyone dealt with this before, and does anyone have any suggestions?
Sounds like your wx strip is too big. Size is really critical on door strips. All too often the standard stuff off the shelf does not fit well. Might try something smaller and than test the seal by closing the door on a piece of paper in the jamb. Sensing resistance when removing the paper indicates a good seal. HTH
Chris. Did you install the molded rubber gasket from someplace like Carpenter or LMC? If not, take that stuff off and get the real door gasket.
If you did get the real gasket it will still be tight, but the rubber will eventually compress and fit properly. You really need to adjust the door before you install the weatherstrip. Its a tricky job and if you can't get it to fit, it might be worth your time to take it to a local body shop and pay the guy to adjust the doors for you.
