Oil smell
Ok diesel techs, it is time to earn your money :-). I had my truck in the shop for and oil smell and could see some oil on the side of the engine. They replaced the seal for the oil fill tube and I have not seen any more oil except for a tiny, tiny amount at the one glow plug. I know they are not going to do anything about it because it was there the first time I took it in and they said nothing was wrong with it. Anyways back to the story, I disconnected my EGR just to try it and I no longer had an oil smell or diesel smell. I would normally get the smell while backing up. I plugged the EGR back in after a few weeks of testing and a couple of days later there was the smell again. I have the diesel but most importantly I have the oil smell. Has anyone else had this or offer any insight?

Thanks for the reply. I cleaned the area around the glow plug to see how bad it is leaking. I will check it this weekend. I believe it is just a small leak though that is why the dealership thinks it is fine. They said they put in dye last time and could not find any leaks but who knows. The one response to leaks that I got was that these engines seep oil and basically there is nothing that can be done about it. I could not believe that when he told me.
