On my 92 F150 xlt, when I first start it, there is a burning smell. It doesnt smell like oil or gas, it smells electrical. It doesnt always do it, but I can't figure out where its coming from. Everything works and no blown fuses. I thought maybe it was the blower motor going bad, but it doesnt squeel and there is no smell after it is running a bit. The smell doesnt last long so I have not been able to find where its coming from and it doesnt do it every time. Anybody ever had this happen or have an idea what might be going on? Thanks for any help.
I would agree probably a starter wire shorting onto the frame could even be a ground doing the same. A thin cover on the wire could be causing the smell when it shorts threw it.
Check the blower resistor block located in the housing under the hood. Could also be a heater core about to fail.

Not trying to thread jack but I get a burning smell when I turn on the heat in my 88, only blows a little warmer air though. Could the blower resister be the culprit? How would a heater core getting ready to blow cause this?
Thanks for the information, it seems like its on the inside. I will let someone start it and look around under the hood, but I havent hoticed any melted wires. I will have to check around a bit more and see whats going on for sure. Thanks for the ideas.
