I've got a 2000 Ex and hte hood will not open. The lever inside the truck feels kinda limp (but it has always felt this way and opened the hood fine). Now after pulling the inside lever the hood releases and will lift up a couple inches, but the lever under the hood that I used to push to the left will not budge. So I can't open the hood more than 2 inches. Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks in advance.
Maybe it is hanging up on the "hook" on the hood. Have you tried lowering the hood an inch or so and [i]then[i/] try to move the lever?
If that doesn't work, bust out some WD-40 or something and try and spray down that latch hinge.
Sunds like the cable is stretched but since it pops the hood a bit, it must not be broken. Once you get it opened I would liberally clean and grease all pivot points and order up a new cable.
I haven't looked at my hood release lever, but a lot of vehicles have a back-up cable under there that can be actuated with a pair of pliers or vise-grips.
I had the same problem with my 2000 X... The previous owner must have dome something.... First pull the lever inside... then put your hand near the lever and push down the hood a little... then actually push or pull the lever as you push the button... if that doesn't work, then get some white lithium grease and don't be afraid to spray a lot in there..... or WD-40... but i find litium grease to work well.... good luck!
