Fuel Filter Replacement

I have a 2003 F250 w/5.4l in it.

I wan to change the fuel filter but I noticed that there is a metal clip instead of the plastic ones found on my car.

Are there supposed to be metal clips on both sides of the filter. All I see is one clip on the engine side of the filter and nothing on the other side. I know I need the special tool(s) to release the filter from the lines.

If the metal clips are to be on BOTH sides of the filter, are they obtainable at an auto parts store? Or the good old Ford Dealer?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Bob

fuel filter replacement

you have to have a tool? I'm guessing you have to get it from Ford Dealer, or any parts store?

NAPA has some nice metal ones, other places have a 5 piece plastic set you can get.

my 98 has two metal safety clips, these come out by hand.

Once you get these off, you need a ford ac fuel line disconnect tool to get the lines off.

Insert the tool, push the lines in, then pull them out.

Thanks

I bought the tool (a series of different size plastic pieces). Popped the clip, used the correct size tool. No problem at all. Just some gas ran down my arm. I also wore safety googles just incase but nothing sprayed.

It was a piece of cake.

Thanks for all the replies..

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all members.

Yea the guy at the auto store where I purchased the tool said it can be a PITA sometimes.

Next time I go for auto supplies I'll tell him...

It's so easy. A caveman can do it.

I change mine once a year so that it doesn't rust on there, and get stuck.

Good advice, and a 8 dollar filter isn't bad on the wallet.
