Exhaust laws
Has any of you seen the BIG truck style, with a long muffler and a turn-down right behind the cab? I would like to run a 29" Flowmaster "Purple horny" glasspack off of my headers and put a turn-down on the end. How legal would that be? Does anyone know how they count the periphery of the vehicle on trucks? would it be just the cab part, or the bed as well? I'll probably end up calling Utah Highway Patrol just to ask, but thought I'd ask here, not just for the legality stuff, but for opinions as well.
Thanks,
-Andrew

They are the only ones you will have to worry about anyway
unless you are going to make it real noisy (cop caller).
I remember talking to the garage, and they said the exhaust had
to exit so many inches away from the passenger compartment. In
the case of a pickup that would be the cab only. I wouldn't
exit the exhaust underneath the vehicle. It makes it too noisy
in the cab.
I just picked up a 65 F-100, and I am planning to do a little modification to the exhaust as well. One thing I plan to do is take the pipes from where they exit now (under the bed angled out in front of the tires), and move the exits to after the axle. I might either go with turn downs just past the axle or the stainless 3 1/2" tips like I have on my 88.
Rigt now it has some turbo mufflers on it, but I might end up changing those in the future as well (like when they blow out) and with a 390 it probably won't be too long.
But I bought the truck un AZ, ad I guess they never bothered to nail the guy for his exhaust.

And for those wondering, Arizona doesn't have any restrictions on the placement of the exhaust system; all you have to worry about is whether the officer thinks it is too loud. Cherry bombs aren't a problem.
