Bear with me if this is a silly question, i have a 14' utility trailer with a single 3500# axle and no brake. My question is can i add an electric brake (already have a controller installed in the truck) to the existing axle? if so can anyone recommend a source?
Take a look at the axle flange. If it has a pad with four bolt holes, it is as simple as adding the backing plate assembly and a new hub/drum assembly and wiring it up.. If not, it will be more work.
Like fellro86 said, some axles have the ability to be modified, but you may find it cheaper to swap out the axle assy. to one with brakes. I bet there are several salvage yards with usable axle assy. just waiting to go on your trailer..
sorry my mistake, it is a 4 bolt flange by the leaf spring-know any trailer supply stores that might sell a kit of some sort. I'm currently overseas and hoping to have the parts waiting when i get home in a few weeks
