I have 2 trucks and my wife hates it! My dad and I restored a 1974 F100 10 years ago. We have sold it back and forth to each other several times. So far neither of us have made money on the deal! I have been driving it every day for two years now. It is a swb with 302, c4, no power brakes or steering. I want to add both. I am having the engine rebuilt this mont by a reputable engine machine shop in St. Pete FL. My other truck is a 1977 swb with 351m, c4. It is a junker, but I have my teenage daughter listed as the driver to keep my insurance rates down.
Dennis,
What is the difference between cruise and non cruise equipped boosters? Since the booster is bad on my 79 2wd with cruise, I was going to try and use the booster from the 77 without cruise. It seems that 79 is the only year that they list a difference with or without. Was 79 first year for factory cruise?
After DJ-0001 The 79 booster mounts to the firewall and pedal assembly an entirely different way.
Earlier trucks have a booster mounted with fulcrum push rod actuator.
79's built after DJ-0001 have a direct push rod mount
I know where there is a 79 booster available for the later Vin#'s.
I think 74 was the first year for cruise/speed control but it could be 75.
Cruise/speed control boosters mount to the pedal differently.
A cruise control pedal uses machined Nub welded on to the pedal to allow the push rod from the booster to slide on the nub and a carriage style brake switch to also slide over it then they are held on with a spring clip.
The minimal amount of slop of this switch on the nub allows for the plate on the switch to move... thus actuating the brake lights.
The NON-Cruise control brake pedal allows for the booster push rod to it by using a bolt that gets tightened up.
The info is important for people who not only want to put Power Brakes on but also want to add cruise.
A truck could still have cruise with manual brakes depending on the Brake Pedal Arm.
