Noticed about a 3" puddle of fluid under the right front axle today. It's coming from right where the u-joints(?) go into the axle themselves. Also noticed that whatever fluid this is has also been spun over the inside of my tire as well.
Any ideas what this is from and about how much $$$ to fix it. Is it something I can do in my garage?
The axle seals are inside the diff. You need to remove everything inside the housing to replace them, except for the pinion. I just did mine for the same reason as yours.
Installing the seals can be tricky without the right tools. I made the tool out of pipe and hammered them in though the axle tube. I ruined the first seal but got it right on the second try.
It's probably $$ to fix if you decide to have it done. IIRC the seals were $20 each.

So it's actually leaking from inside the diff?? What would cause this? I just drained them and replaced the fluid with synthetic so is that gone as well or can I reuse it..it's only got a few hundred miles on it since the switch.
I guess you could re-use the fluid if it don't get dirt in it from draining. Must have been time for the seals to wear out? I don't think the syn oil caused the leak IMO.
CJ, did you happen to check the vent tube when you changed seals? Mine has the same problem, started leaking badly rather quickly when temps picked up this summer. Both sides started leaking at the same time. I figured it might have been from too much internal pressure due to the vent tube getting plugged. Just wondering if maybe that was the cause of your seal failure. I haven't had a chance to look into it and see if my vent tube is obstructed or not.

unless you drive in 4x4 all the time on the road i am willing to bet you have less than 10 miles on your front end lube. assuming of course you dont drive around with your hubs alwasy locked and just keep the t-case in 2wd!
this guy has the best prices i have found on D60 parts!

Skeeter, Mine was only leaking from 1 side. Good thing to check tho, especially if you're doing alot of 4 wheeling in the deep stuff.
The outter seals are a joke, they get damaged easy and don't really seal off the end of axle tube anyway. I'm pretty sure the outter seals are the reason for the inner seal failures. I or the PO must of dunked my front axle in deep mud/water at some point cuz I found a lot of dirt in the axle tubes.
Cuda Jim...I'm a little confused. Are there seals on the wheel end of the axle that I need to replace in addition to the ones inside the diff. How long can I get by with it leaking or is this something that could just have a full blow out while I'm driving and needs to be done now?
