Fuel leak
Fuel leak
1997 F350 PSD with 122k. The top of the block has some fuel pooling on it and when I park, I get about a 4-5 inch puddle under the truck. I've checked it out while it's running but I can't seem to see it leaking from anything.
What should I be looking at to fix?

Take your engine cover off, dry up all the fuel in the valley with paper towels and a long screw driver or long needle nose pliers. Then see where the fuel is puddling at (front of the valley= fuel hoses/fuel filter housing/FPR; middle of the valley=fuel hoses/pump) The pump has a small weep hole on the bottom side, when the diaphram starts to go it leaks from the weep hole. Fuel pump from NAPA (Carter OEM) Reference # 61067 about $130. If it's the pump and you change it, replace all of the hoses while you are in there. If you need the numbers for the hoses just ask and someone will post then, or do a search.
thanks for the info. Need some clarification from Plowhand though..what is FPR short for?
With the current milage, should I just go ahead and replace the pump and hoses and be done with it? Seems like I would be avoiding more minor problems down the road and an eventual pump replacement anyways

FPR = Fuel Pressure Regulator.
Its that metal, mostly brass, thing attached to the driver side of the fuel filter bowl.

Also check very large (1-1/4" I think) Brass bolt at back of pump.
My truck has had fuel leak since I bought it (6 yrs ago), tightened that bolt a couple years ago, seemed to lessen leak, at least temp., leaks like a sieve now.
probably due for a pump. customers of mine have asked me not to park in thier drive, for now I just park in the street.

I'm going to go ahead and replace the pump and would like to dress it up with a little chrome. did a google search for mechanical pumps but didn't have much luck. Anyone know a part number for a good looking pump and lines
If you have not done this before here is a couple of tips:
- You will need a 1-1/4 wrench to get to the banjo bolt in the back of the fuel pump.
- Take the time and remove and clean the fuel filter assembly.
- Be very careful when removing the pump and do not let the piece on the bottom of the fuel pump that hits the cam fall into the engine!!!
- Buy about 2 feet of new diesel rated fuel line to replace all the hoses. That way you can just cut them as you are removing everything.
Carter is the only manufacturer that I know of that makes the pumps for our trucks. Reference # 61067 from NAPA, Autozone etc. They are all made by Carter but will be in different boxes. About $130. Sorry, I have never seen any chromed ones, but you could have your engine cover chromed, or buy one of the chromed after market ones off ebay.
Thanks for the info..Is what I'm replacing techincally called a mechanical fuel lift pump? and does everything I will need to do the job, like gaskets and such, come with the kit or is that other stuff I need to pick up
