Headlight Fogged
I have a 97 Exporer with a headlight problem. The low beam does not produce an adequate beam so I need to run with high beams to see the road. It appears that the lens might be sand blasted, but a mechanic told me it was carbon or some other type of emision from the lamp.
I was told there is a cleaner you can spray or pour into the lens housing to clear this problem without changing the lenses. Has anyone had this problem or know's of a fix?

If the fogging is on the inside of the lens, you'll probably have to replace it. If it is on the outside, you might try what I did to my daughter's Sable that had the same issue. I found some optical polishing pads in the automotive section at Walmart that were designed to use with a drill. Clean any bugs, etc off the lens, keep it wet, and go slow with the pad, and you'll be surprised how well it shines up. Even if it only lasts a while and they fog up again, $10 for the polishing kit (mandrel and 5 or 6 pads) is a lot better than the price of a new lens assembly. It only took 10-15 minutes per side, and I did 2 cars with one pad. Good Luck.
