I have a 2004 XLT 4x4 that the back window shakes and rattles even on open pavement. Dealer tried to fix it twice, TSB stated to install a new channel but did not work. Second time they had to remove the glass and re-seal. This only lasted about 8000 miles and now its back again and outta warranty.
Any fixes, this is annoying as hell. It is not the sliding window but the glass behind the rear passengers head.
here is a cut and paste from a portion of the TSB:
PROCEDURE "B"
This condition may be due to the exterior trim molding around the outside of the back glass rubbing against the paint of the vehicle. The noise may be temporarily resolved by applying outward pressure on the back glass assembly.
Using a plastic wedge, lift the lip of the exterior trim molding.
Apply a small amount of Krytox Grease (164-R4906) from the Rotunda Squeak And Rattle Kit (164-R4900) with a plastic spatula, squeegee or other suitable tool.
Check visible surfaces for any excess Krytox Grease and wipe off.
No, not yet but I will look into it. It seemed to be the inner channel the window sits in but I will check the outside seal. It is really bad so I need to get it fixed. It is almost as if the seal is too large for the glass.
Mine is driving me up the wall. Started at about 5K. It is definatly the little things with this truck that would make me never buy another Ford. I am on emblem number two for the paint coming off. Still dealing with soft crappy brakes, that the dealer keeps telling me there is no TSB for. I know for a fact the booster was redesigned for '06 due to customer complaints about soft brakes.
I had this problem, took some silacone spray and went around the whole trim on the outside, quiet for 1 year so far.
What silicone did you use? How did you apply it? take the whole seal off, or just peel it back fro the outside. What do you think about doing the inside?
Yeah, i have the same issue and it just keeps getting worse. I would like to get it fixed soon since my radio volume only goes so high.... This silicone idea sounds like the ticket. I'll pick some up tonight and let you know how it works out tomorrow. Seems like it would only be a temporary solution to me tho.
Just any silicone in a can with the red extension tube on, take a rag and hold it over the tip as you try and get the spray between the trim and paint, all around the outside of the rear window. Mine has held up for a long time so far.
Yeah, I got some silicon spray at the hardware store. I sprayed all the way around the window. The window was quiet right away after a quick test drive. I did however notice another rattle on the drivers side in the back after I got the window to stop making noise. After some searching, it turns out the new rattle was from the plastic cover on the shoulder seatbelt. It came unsnapped somehow. Now shes as quiet as a mouse. Hopefully this silicon fix lasts a while. Thanks for the quick fix idea, nice work folks.
