I'm in Wa. looking at my truck. It looks like the engine and tranny are not stock. There is no stud for the clutch linkage on the block it is presently mickey moused but works. The real problem is the engine vibrates throughout the rpm range. I think it's got the wrong flywheel. I know the throwout bearing is wrong and I will be putting a new clutch in it to get it back to San Diego. I need to know the part no for the right flywheel. Where do Ilook on the block to find the numbers I need to match a flywheel with. Thanks Rich

You didn't say what year your truck is. If its '64 or close it could be a stock engine. You won't know until you take it apart but be sure the pilot bearing has not been crushed in someone's attempt to do a quick job. That will give you shakes and shutters. Nathan, here's a question I'll bet you can answer.

Well, it seems it should have a stud on the block for the clutch linkage pivot. As for the vibration, it could be just bad motor mounts. Mine has a slight vibration above 50mph that I think is due to the mounts. We'll find out when I change them.
OK I was in a hurry when I posted the first question. It is a 61 unibody. Today is the first time I've seen it in person. There is no boss on the block where the pivot stud should go. Looking at the steering colum I think it was born with a 3 on the tree. It now has a 4 spd granny low in it. The oil dipstick goes in the block on the right side near the rear of the engine. I'm not sure if this makes it a truck or car engine I understand there was a difference. It really looks like somebody made it work with what was available. I also have a big hole hacked in the floor to make room for the shifter tower. The floor does not have a removable center section like newer models I have worked on. I have plans for a 302 and automatic, it needs to be wife friendly someday, I just need to make it road worthy for the trip home. I suspect the flywheel is wrong because I think the engine was originaly coupled to an automatic. I have also experienced wrong flywheel vibration problems before. Yes a 240 flywheel will bolt onto a 351 Cleveland crank. It works rael good if you want to bore out the main bearing bosses.

ps Just for morbid curiosity, what are the head casting #s on that 292?
Nathan this is my first 292. Where do I look for the casting #s. I think what I have is an earlier truck motor, 60 and prior had hydraulic clutches thus no pivot. If I'm wrong somebody please tell me. I took lots of pictures and will post some soon. As far as the transplant goes when I can afford a donor car it's a done deal. But it runs fine the way it is I just have to put a clutch in it, no big. As cheap as I got it I'm not complaining a bit.
Rich; On your 292 from 61-64 the clutch ball with bracket bolted on the front of the bell housing near the oil pump. Two bolts in a verticle pattern 3/8x16 hold the bracket to the housing. This engine has a unique flywheel and was not out of balance like many later engines. You didn't say when it viberates. At idle, under acceleration, on launch, or at highway speed. Your cab floor was uncut at the factory for the smaller 3 speed, on four speeds the floor was cut and the edge rolled down for strength. Get a cover from a four speed truck and use it as pattern to drill your holes to install. I have the parts if you need them. I also have a flywheel if you want to change it. If you go to a 302 newer ones do not have the boss on the block for the clutch ball (they use cable or hydraulic). Get a bell housing from a 70's van it has a bracket for the ball. I have one of those also.

Jerry thanks for the info. My engine vibrates through the whole rmp range. I have not driven the truck at highway speed but have moved it around the yard. It does have the bolt on clutch pivot you discribed but a "C" clamp has been added to the arrangement, I'm not sure why. The throwout bearing has a short collar on it and the 4spd requires a long collar. I have all the clutch parts except for the flywheel. It is not a misfire causing the vibration. If you look at the top rear corner of the trans, through the hole in my floor , it make a circular pattern as it vibrates at idle.
