I'm about 95% done with a 65 F100 2wd swb ( originally I6 ) resto and noticed something on my core support. While looking at a couple of local junker 65/66's to refresh my memory on the wire harness routing, I noticed that the supports were different than mine. My support has two factory holes that are about 3"-4" in diameter between the radiator opening and the headlight bucket dimples. They have a flat trim ring and a rubber gasket that chokes the hole opening down to about 1"-1 1/2" and pass through to either front wheel well. The front end is already back together but I have no reference to know what if anything electrical was supposed to pass through these openings. By the way, I'm not much of a poster but could not have got this resto done without this forum. Thanks in advance.
I too had that type of core support. I found that is the factory item for the grill guard that was an option. There were two braces that ran back through those holes and hooked to the frame. Since I didn't have the grill guard and wouldn't have put it on even if I did, I found a support without the holes.
When I tore down my 65.The main harness was routed up over the top of support from solenoid to regulator. Then split back to firewall and the other half went thru that hole in support to front side of radiator to catch the head lights and turn signals and horns. The holes had a plastic snap rings in them I am thinking to protect wires from rubbing on support. I have seen other trucks like this also.
