Fellas,
Need some help here. 95 f150, supercab-short box, 351, E40d, 3.55 limited slip rear.
Got a steady vibration from 35-40 miles per hour. Not above, not below. Doesn't matter whether in neutral, on an accel, or a decel. The U joints are fine, as is the midship bearing. The ONLY thing that has changed is that I took out the steering column a couple of weeks ago to fix the sloppy shifter. That is in right, the steering shaft is back in the original position. The ONE thing that bothers me is that this showed up after I fixed the column. There should be no connection. The vibration is not in JUST the steering column. The vibration is in the whole truck, and it's pretty bad.
Could be a bad tire with broken cords or a warped/bent rim. Jack up each corner and spin the wheel looking for warpage and or tire problems. If you have spares swap out a pair and test drive. If everyting checks out, you may have an unbalanced driveshaft. A competent dealer can find and rebalance this.
a noise/wobble/vibration that is present at high speed but not low speeds has a very high percentage that it is a tire problem. Make sure they are balanced properly and are ok structurally (no belts slipped, etc.)
