okay i already posted this in the fuel board, with no luck, maybe i can get some help here. 1990 f250 with dual tanks. switched to rear and both pumps run, switched to front and neither run. ALL fuel from the rear goes to the front and overflows it while drving. anyone have ideals. and btw for more info check out the fuel system board under "possible wiring problems" thanks

The filling the other tank issue is the Dual Function Resevoir is bad. Special order from Ford Dealer about $85.00 The other sounds like the switch is bad. Dealer also or junk yard.
Been there, had these problems.

i got a new switch and dual function resouivor today. the switch didn't help. i'll try putting the dfr on when the rain lets up. i don't think the truck has one now, if it does i've never seen it.
ok thanks. can anyone tell me where the ground for both pumps meets at. i think that has something to do with it because it all started when i tried to fix the ground wire at the rear pump. are they grounded to the rear end?
I do not know on the 1990 but on the 93-96 it was the LH front of the engine compartment, on upper radiator support. It seems like that somebody may have said at one time that it was under the dash on a 1990.
subford, do you think that could cause both pumps to kick on when the switch is on rear?
No, if you did not have a ground there would not be a return path for the other pump through the selector switch and neither pump would run.
Look at the diagram above and you will see what I mean.
ok any other ideals on what would cause this, besides a switch
The BR/W & R (Brown wire with a white stripe and Red) wires shorted together somewhere between the switch and where the tanks wiring leaves the wiring harness to go to the tanks.
