i own a 1989 ford F150 single cab 4x4 with an inline 6 with about 140000 miles on it and lately i have noticed that the oil is breaking down alot faster and more liquid based than before i smelled the oil and it smells like gas is in it kind of. Is this possible and what would cause it?? sometimes after driving more than 10 mins.. it will smoke very little in the cab just on the drivers side and smells in the cab .the hose from the valve cover to the crankcase used to leak bad into my air filter box so i took it off but it still sprays oil a little out of the hose what would cause this?? PLEASE HELP!
thank you.
Mike
Check your PCV valve for the oil in the air box item.
As for the gas in the oil, it could be related. Your rings may be allowing blow by, etc pusing gas into the oil and a non-functioning PCV wont' help. Some gas in the oil is common, especially if you've flooded the engine since your last oil change. I'd say smelling it is normal, but if you drain it and can see it floating in the oil pan, that is not.
Umm, guys, isn't the '89 I6 also EFI? If so, another possibility is that the Fuel Pressure Regulator is failed, and he's dumping raw fuel into the intake. Only so much fuel it's gonna burn.
my dad owned the truck before me and he had the injectors cleaned because it had a miss and the guy said they were bad but the miss came right back and is still there as far as compression if i park on a slight hill it will roll a 4 or 5 inches every couple seconds in 1st gear so it probably is the rings it doesnt burn oil but it knocks when i start it.roughly how much would it cost to do and is it really hard?? i have changed engines b4 but never took pistons out is it a hard job, should i try to replace it?? or will it last a while like it is??thanks alot..u guys are ALOT of help and i really appreciate it!!

I had a mid 80" I6Bronco that suffered the same symptoms ( on a much larger scale) and I never did figure out what it was... I had thick blow-by fumes coming in thru the cab AC vents, the PCV valve would blow out constantly and spew oil all over.. I took it to the Ford dealer after several local mechanics couldn't figure out WTF was wrong with it. The mechanic there couldnt tell me anything definative.... could be this... maybe that... we won't know untill we tear the engine apart ....
Good luck to you in finding your issue and fixing it. Mine was left stuck in the mud in Augusta, MO...God rest its rusted soul.
