After much effort and lots of frustration, I am pleased to tell everyone that I have completed the 428 build for my 72 Crew Cab.
It took 8 months to build and several frustrating weeks trying to get it started for break-in. Turns out I had a mismatch between the carb spacer and intake that was causing a monster vacuum leak.
The new 428 replaces a really old and lazy 2V 390. The difference is night and day! Tons of power and super smooth.
The build is very mild. Started with a virgin 66 428 Super Marauder (345 hp / 462 torque factory rating). .030 over Forged pistons with 22 cc dish (~8.5 cr), Survival Motorsports cam (484/510, 204/214 at 112), DSC adjustable rocker assembly, factory S intake and 1.12 autolite. Heads were totally reconditioned with new valves, hardened exh seats, guides, etc. Dizzy was setup by Faron Rhodes. Everything was balanced.
I am still running the factory manifolds. Next step is shortie headers and a new exhaust system.
God job man, glad to hear all is running well. You'll shurely notice a big difference when adding the headers. Any reason why you're going with shorts instead of long tubes? You should post up some pictures of the engine, we always love that in the FE forum.

Cool in every direction, Tim! :)
I read a print magazine article on the web about a Ford 9" R&P change out and the maker said "3 hrs". The two guys in the article took 5 hours. :)
I figured... "for me, 5 weeks". :)
Turned out to be 5 months and it didn't turn out as good as your engine, LOL. :)
