Research the new pistons before the engine is bored. I found the forged TRWs are no longer available, and was lucky to get a set of .040 Silvolites. Warehouse, (Silvolite) located like 16 or 18 left in stock nationwide! Took 2 weeks to get a complete set shipped in...........aMP

I found Kieth Black pistons on ebay. they are available in STD, .020, .030, .040 & .060. and for $315.99 dont sound like a bad price. If you guys have any better ideas, please let me know before i start ordering. I will be taking the block to the machine shop monday. the guy i bought it from told me it was .030 but when i put the calipers to it I got a wide variity (.005 - .030)?????? the only thing i can think of is it was bored to fit the pistons and there must have been a diff in them.

I think those are Hypertounic, (sp), If they are, follow the recomended top ring gap or the pistons will die a premature death..........My post was about the forged choices out there, very few.........aMP

About the only pistons around are the KB or the Silvolites.....The hyper use expanded ring gaps on the top ring, doesn't really matter the brand, just oversized gap........If it is a fresh bore, have it honed for Moly tops, they seat really quickly on the proper grit honed finish. Talk to the shop and tell them which rings you're going to use...aMP

Pit, I believe the Hyper's exspand and contract less the other pistons..So it woud seem to me they would use a closer gap than a cast or forged?

And your right as far as cylinder finish for running moly rings... Thats what I'am having done to mine is a power hone in a few different grits..the cylinders end up having a sheen almost like industrial chrome finish..and the rings usually seat when your breaking in the cam..

BTW..depending on what your going to build..am sure Barry R at Survival Motorsports can get you some forged pistons.. JMO

I run Wiseco in my motors. You can get them in a variety of sizes. I have a set of "9" .015 over's sitting on the shelf right now.

When I put motor together a few years back, it ate a screw and tore up a wall and piston. I needed ONE and couldn't get it, so I ordered TEN, so I have a full set(with an extra) plus the one I needed for current motor. Ah, ain't it great!

From what I've heard, the "Hyper" pistons were nothing more than fancy named cast pistons? Sorta like hi-end cast pistons(a step above factory cast slugs).

What kind of gas mileage is achievable w a FE in a 2wd '68 F100 w a 4 spd? I just bought a '68 and am trying to decide whether or not to stay w the FE or go w something newer and smaller. I want to make it into a daily driver/cruiser.
