A few months ago I posted here about a problem I was having with my newly rebuilt 390. My problem was that it was blowing clouds of smoke. It was very inconsistant about it too,it would do it now then, and then I would see non of it for days. Well right after I posted, I bought and installed a pertronix igniter. I set the timing at 10 derees btdc with the vacuum line plugged and have seen no smoke since, can anyone explaine why. Thanks
sounds like incomplete burn... light blue smoke is 9 out of 10 times fuel- too rich or it was loading up... good hot spark coupled with accurate timing sounds like it took care of any issues.. if you were running points before that explains it all- they're not near as 'hot' of an ignition system. average stock points output is about half that of a electronic system...
If it's that fat and blue smoking someone ran it way too long under those conditions, I would tear it down as the bores, pistons and rings are a scored up mess.
