I tried to search but didnt find what I was looking for.
Has anybody added "mesh" behind the grill? Looking at my 04 the sides of the grill have a hexagon shaped mesh in the grill but the main grill is wide open. I was thinking that adding some of the blk plastic mesh behind the main grill would look clean and protect the fins as well. Has anybody tried this??? i would like to see a picture of the "after".
I have the same grill you have . What I did was order a Grill Insert Kit from Summit ,I have no hex behind my grill either only on the sides. If this makes sense to you , I installed the grill kit useing my on made brackets to hold the inserts in place . you cant use the ones in the kit ,they bolt to the hex that you dont have. It was simple , cut 8 strips of metal 3/4 wide about 4 in long and bent 90 degree on one end of metal strip , I then notched out the in side of grill to hold the brackets in place , get a strip of black truck cap tape and lay over your bracket , faceing out ,this will help hide the bracket and any rust, and also help holding the brackets in place ,then I used the supplied bolt and nuts , Took about an hour and 1/2 . Looks perfect !!!!!!!!!
I installed mesh behind my grill, I also removed the hex plastic on the sides and installed it there also (a bird already removed half of it on one side so I finished the job). What I used was the mess off our old C band dish and painted it white to match the truck. You can't install it in one piece because of the structure behind the grill. I attached it with small tie raps and small holes drilled in the grill.
