hey all, i have a 97 Explorer in white. i have some stuff on the rear quarter panel that i dont know what is. it looks like egg remnants. someone in my complex has been going around vandalising cars and i guess mine got it. i already removed some brown paint that was splattered on the back liftgate but i cant seem to get this "stuff" off. what should i do/use? I have a scotchbrite pad but i dont wanna scratch anything.... are there any solvents i can use? i had it washed and waxed but it did nothing..... i waxed/rewaxed with that eagle 1 nanowax and still nothing.... any help would be appreciated.
The old chemistry saying is "like dissolves like" comes to mind for this problem. The problem is you need to know what you are trying to remove to know what solvent will work best and you also need to be careful that the solvent wont hurt your finish. Since you already washed with soap and water you could try mineral spirits on the material and see if it removes it. I would try to only apply the solvent to the material itself and keep it off your paint. After you have removed the material then wash the surface with soap and water and then rewax the area. Auto parts stores sell something call goo remover and tar remover that you could try as well.
Try a wax and grease remover like Prepsol. Just look in advanced auto or autozone. Napa is probably your best bet since they sell paint. They should have wax and grease remover.
