The Cavaliers are cheap cars. Plain and simple. You get what you pay for. If you want a luxury car, go buy one. POS? I would disagree with that. I've got 210k on my 99. Runs everyday. 32 MPG and I consistently drive 70+. It has paid for itself better than either of my 2 Ford trucks. Not knocking the Fords, I am just making a point here. GM builds cheaper vehicles across the board. I think the Buicks are just as bad. Really. Take 10 minutes to really look one over and then compare it to other cars in it's class. No comparison.

Yep- the Cavalier was designed around a price point. Even when they changed the bodystyle, the chassis still dated back to the original '82 model. They were cheap, reasonably reliable, cheap, easy to afford, cheap...... you get the idea.
Not a bad first car for under a grand right now though. Everyone knows Toyota or Honda builds a better car, but you can't touch anything decent and serviceable for this kind of money.
