I got my lower door molding ripped of by a tree and it left the double sided foam tape on the door. how do I remove this tape. I have tried a heat gun, acetone, nailpolish remover. any tips?
thanks

You dont want to use acetone. Straight acetone is strong enough you're likely to take some paint with you. Ditto on MEK or lacquer thinner. If you've gotten the foam part of it off, the adhesive will eventually soften enough to scrape off with a milder solvent, like naptha, without taking your paint.
Now I have to say I've never taken that specific tape off a door, so it isn't a complete apples to apples comparison, but there are products out there that work, albeit slowly. You might also try goof-off, and for some adhesives, WD-40 does a great job at peeling them.
I can't even get the foam part of the tape off. The heat gun just makes the whole thing into a big slimy hot mess. as for the door damage. the molding was peeling about 1" of the leading edge. the tree was about 1/2" in diameter and it hooked into the molding and just peeled it off the truck. no damage, but just enough to tick me off but good.
What I found helpful was to start at the end of the tape and "roll" it off with your fingers in a pushing type movement. I also softened it up a bit with a hair dryer and that helped.
I started getting blisters after a few inches, so a pair of mechanics gloves might help too... good luck.
go to your local auto paint supply house or a good body shop. they have "erasers" that you hook up to a buffer and the stuff just falls off with no damage to the paint. i can do a whole car in about 10 minutes.
