I have a Sony Erricson Z500a and 3 nights ago,the backlight for both screens quit working. First the inside light quit but if I closed the phone the small outside one still worked. Now both don't light up and the key pad doesnt light up either. Just the power button. It still displays stuff and every now and then it'll come on,or if I turn it off then back on it will come on. Or when the outside light still worked, the inside would too aslong as I didnt open it to far.
Any ideas how to fix this? A guy local here can probably fix it for 35 bux, because this phone was in water for a bit of time,it worked for an hour then quit reading the sim chip, took it to him, payed 35 and it worked fine untill this.
Is this just a temp thing or is the phone screwed?
Once a phone has been wet inside, and the water left to set for any length of time,
the phone will develop small amounts of corrosion that start up again when the
phone is exposed to humidity. There also is a mold that lives on these circuit
boards, and along with the corrosion, causes small short circuits on the board.
Then the phone will then deteriorate over time, and it is nearly impossible to clean
all the unexposed areas on the boards. If it were me, I would invest the money in
my next phone, because it may work for a short time, or be unreliable, as it
deteriorates. I performed first echelon repairs on Nextel phones in my last job.
Alright....I've got a stupid question.....but......how long have you had your phone?......Could it be the battery wearing out?....I had a phone one time for just under 2 years.....The lights stopped working, but the phone display worked and I could use it fine.....As it turned out, the battery was getting weak (even the rechargables have a life span), and the lights, which take up a LOT of energy, are usually the first to go.......
How wet was the phone? My father has dropped 2 into puddles... The first was full of water, so he bought a new phone and we kept the other one just for kicks. Sure enough, he dropped the second in a puddle it owuld work fine, but it was constantly vibrating (how the techs know you got the phone wet) So, I switched out the sim cards and sure enough, the first phone works like a charm. I don't want to give you any false hope, and it takes a good week or two, but I know from experience they can dry out and work again, however, chances are it's cooked. Cell phones really don't like water.
If I leave the phone open after I turn it on,everytime I hit a key,it'll work fine everytime. I close it and thats when the crap starts. Lemme go switch batteries real quick. It was dropped in water and fixed in the next days many months ago.
Nevermind,I bumped the screen and the sucker busted. Looks like something from the 60's now. Looks like i'm either getting a new phone or going to that guy and seeing what he can do with it. More then likely, all the pictures and sounds I had on it,are gone since you cant see what you're looking at and they *******es that designed it made it where you couldnt back up to something external off the phone. Maybe he can swap screen and get the stuff off. Who the hell knows.......I hate this god forsaken week. If it aint one thing,Its friggin EVERYTHING!!!!
