OK, so I changed my thermostat again. I'm afraid that I stripped out the bottom bolt. Either the socket twisted off or the threads stripped in the aluminum lower intake. I wasn't cranking very hard at all and didn't even get it as tight as the upper two bolts so there may have been some damage to the threads already. Anyway, I tried very carefully to snug it back up and it seemed to tighten ok but I didn't push it. I have no leaks right now, but I'm not real confident that it won't work itself loose. Anyway, I was thinking of getting one of those Heli-Coil kits to fix the threads or at least have on hand in case they are stripped so that I can fix it on the spot. But, I need to know the size of the bolt and the size of the threads or whether the threads are coarse or fine and whether they are standard or metric and stuff to buy the specific kit I need. How do I determine this or better yet, does anyone on here know the info I need? It's for the truck in my signature. Thanks.
Thanks for the answers. Can anyone confirm the bolt size? And is that a fine thread or coarse thread? I tried calling my local Ford dealer and they were no help.
I was thinking of trying a slightly longer bolt to see if it would grab some more threads and just be real careful with it. Anyone want to add anything further or comment on if a longer bolt might work? I might have to use a washer or two so that it won't be too long. Not sure how far the hole is tapped into the lower intake.
