help w/90 Ranger o2 sensor

i am looking to find out how many O2 sensors a, 2wd, a/t, w/air, and a 4.0l has. The code said the right side not switching. i replaced it the map sensor(which from the factory was not mounted right, it was upside down and backwards, even tho it had a mounting arrow.) and the filter. The problem is my mpg dropped from 20mpg to about 15mpg. it idles rough at start up. i cleaned iac motor, replaced plugs, cleaned air filter, had upper intake cleaned at the dealer. So i am wondering if i totaly missede an o2 sensor. any help would greatley be appreciated thanks

Anything is possible, but keep in mind the computer doesn't even use O2 data for calculating air/fuel ratio until it hits "closed loop" operation (in other words, once the engine warms up). Are you sure it's a 1990? I could be wrong but I don't recall a 4.0 being used in that vehicle?

First, welcome to FTE!!!

Yes, the 2.3L 4 cylinder, and the 2.9L & 4.0L V-6's were available in 1990. Normally the codes say "BANK 1" or "BANK 2", not "RIGHT" or "LEFT". Are you
sure you changed the correct sensor? What was the actual code?

IT is definately a 4.0 (rare option i have gathered)and thanks for the welcome. it tells me KOEO: MAP, O2 sensor, (remember codes want engine operating temp at 2500) The one option i have tossed around is the fuel pressure regulator. I don't have a gauge to check pressure tho and at 90 bucks a pop i'm not shotgunnin parts at it. What gets me is, the factory map sensor is marked w/ arrow pointing ^, the factory (or previous owner) has made a cubby in the firewall. The only way it fits is upside down and on it's back... every other MAP sensor i have seen has been in a vertical position. What is the point of marking if it doesn't matter........or does it? Ican ground out the ecm...that buys me a couple of days until it relearns it's fault....It is running to rich according to the o2 sensor and computer. I've thought tps but i usually noticed w/ that problem i have underpowered throttle...At one point scanner said it was the cap...bank 1-3...that code occured once. this change in MPG occured instantly, so i have ruled out intake or vaccum leak(I simply fogged motor down w/ carb cleaner w/ no change in revs).... so guys i am open to all suggestions you can throw at me
