He guys, did you all get a recall on the speed sensor thingamajiggy. It was a 2 minute fix today for me. And in the little town i was in they already had 5 trucks burn to the ground. I was shocked. And VERY happy its done an over. Id like to tell you what an were the part went, it looked like a fusible link from the distance, but i was flirting with a short skirted 30 sumthing with ummm really brite headlights...and red hair. Looked like a cheerleader, i sure know i was cheering..hehe. So have you guys heard of this?
It's the cutoff switch for the cruise control when you hit the brakes. It's a pressure switch, screwed right into the master cylinder. It's fed at ALL TIMES with 12 volts at 20 amps. More than the switch can carry. When the switch leaks internally, it shorts out, can't possibly suck 20 amps, doesn't blow the fuse, just burns the truck to the ground.
This has been known about for years, but it took Ford a long time to finally recall the SD's.
The fusible link is (I think) setup for 5 amps.
I still have to bring mine in to get it done, and then right afterwards, I'm putting a relay inline so it's not powered hot at all times.
Two of the Super Dutys I did the recall on today had brake fluid in the connector on the switch.
If you can't get in soon to have the recall done it may be a good idea to unplug the switch.
at least back to 1996.. up unto ? My sisters F150 has the same recall. I unpluged her switch for her as suggested. and both my 00 trucks have had the recall.
