Hey yall- I need some help. I would like to know how to positively ID the type/size of my axles, transfer case and also the gear ratio(I hope the gear ratio is the same front and back lol) the truck in question is a 1990 f-250 460bb/e40od. Also any recommendations on a new ratio for 35 or 37 inch tires? What about speedo recal? Thanks alot
The rear is a Sterling 10.25 full floater. The front is either a Dana 44 HD or a Dana 50. Probably a 50. If the hubs completely fill the opening in the front wheel, it's a Dana 50.
The gear ratio is either a 3.55 or a 4.10. There's a tag on each diff that tells you what it is. You can also post the code from the driver's door jamb sticker.
The transfer case is a BW 13-56.
There is a gear ratio calculator here on FTE that can help you. Look in the tech articles section. Picking a ratio requires more information than just the tire size, like how high you are willing to have the motor rev on the highway and what kind of mileage penalty you're willing to take.
