Cool GLow Plug Relay Problems????

Ok,
I work offshore on a 14/14 schedule.
The last couple of times when Iv'e come back in and once while I was at home.
I noticed something out of the ordinary when starting my truck.
I turn the key, the wait to start light comes on, then goes out, as soon as I turn the key to start the wait to start light comes back on and I hear a buzzing noise from the under dash / firewall area.
Truck is an 01 F-250 CC 4X4 LWB 120,000 mi.
As a side note not sure if it's related or not but my mileage has dropped about 2 mpg.
Thanks in advance.

Does it start up ok? Any smoke ect ect?

Open the hood and see if that buzzing is coming from under the little cover on the engine. If so, it's GP relay.

Starts a little slower than normal, sounds / feels almost as if batteries are down, but only for that one time. The rest of the time / day it starts fine.
Haven't noticed any smoke but to be honest, I wasn't really looking.
Sounds like I've got some investigating to do, wish I had one of the cop members to help, they know what they're doing.

Thanks, Cuda for the part numbers checked them out in the hard start thread, just couldnt find any mention of the light coming back on, or the buzzing noise.

Nut,
As far as I know they are the original batteries, I bought the truck used in late 02' and havent had any problems yet.
Checked the little green dots on top the batteries, they both be greenen.

The relay buzzing could be the fuel pump relay. When my batteries went south, I could get the WTS light go out and then I would hear a buzzing under the dash by the heater control, and it would be extremely hard to start. I would check the batteries, and would totaly rely on the green dots, because one of my bad one still had a green dot.

Ok,
I think, emphasis on think I have it narrowed down to either the fuel pump relay, as the buzzing noise is definetley coming from inside the cab or batteries.
Anyone know where you can get batteries tested in the vehicle.
If battery(ies) are bad what is the preffered replacement.

The batteries have been covered extensively. I think the most important thing is price/value along with the warranty. Where you get them is critical there. How will they back the product?

I believe your relay is fine. Started mine yesterday and romp romped and started slowly. Same noise under dash. I have known I will need to replace my batts this year so no big deal. They are 5+ years old. You can drive to AZ or any local store like the O that has a load tester and pull them out for a load test. Or put them in another vehicle and go there. When one is gone, replace both. I say again, they must be replaced in pairs or suffer the consequences.

I am one of those cop members, that and $.50 will get you a cup of coffe but I hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch Tenn,
I have read alot of your posts and knew you were LE, kinda hopin you would read this.
If you are ever in the neighborhood you wont need .50 to get a cupa joe while I'm around.
Iv'e got lots of kinfolk in both LE and the military and have nothing but the highest respect.
OK,
Time to get off the soapbox.
I knew about the 2 battery thing from when I had a 92' 7.3L
I guess I'll be looking for some batteries.

Deer season is upon us! Sucks when the truck won't start after a cold hunt.
I may possibly have something else going on too, although I doubt it, but my batteries have served well and I don't expect them to last another winter.

Right back at you on the coffee offer. Good luck.

Yeah, sucks to have to buy batteries right before bow season, gues the tires for the Honda Rancher will have to wait.

Ok,
Think I have it fixed, 2 new batteries.
Both batteries tested right at 200 cranking amps with a full charge.
Thanks everyone for your help.
