Hey guys,
I have a 81' 300-I6 the throttle has a spot just above idle that sticks. It makes the truck jump foward everytime you try to accelerate. It only does this after it has warmed up. When it is not running it is very smooth.I have sprayed the cable and it helped for a day or two.Any ideas what it might be?Could it be the carb?It it the stock carb by the way.
Thanks for any replies
Thanks WoomaHodal I'm pretty sure it's not the motor mount.I'm leaning towards the carb or linkage right now it just gets annoying changing gears and it sticking in that one spot.As long as I don't let off the gas while changing gears it's fine, but I'm afraid that will eventually break something.

oh i missed the part where you said it only happens when its warm. i'd say its probably just linkage issues then.
Have you tried to disconnect the throttle cable at the carb and see if it is binding by moving it back and forth by hand? That may help you figure out if it is the cable or the carb.
Does the '81 have a cable or is it a bell-crank linkage?
If it's a bellcrank look for worn out pivot holes, if it's a cable look inside the return spring. There are two plastic sheaths in there, one attached to the cable body and one attached to the ball stud clip. They slide in and out of one another. If one is broken it can cause the throttle to bind.
Thanks guy I just got back on to post that I unhooked the cable and it is for sure something in the carb.I sprayed the linkage down real heavy and it raises the RPM's.I think it's time to sweet talk the wife into a new carb

well if it runs better when you spray the outside of the carb, then you have leaks in the gaskets somewhere, causing a vacuum leak. your carb probably just needs a rebuild, but if you have the money to do a full upgrade...do it.
My dads next door neighbor gave him a carter just like mine about a month before I bought this truck. He had my dad rebuild it for his show car and didn't like the way it ran so he put a 4 barrel on it and gave the carter to my dad so it will be going on soon.
