There is a gunk buildup on the inside of your throttle body and the butterfly is sticking. Pull the air intake and you'll see the hinge....get a buddy to start the truck and rev the engine while you spray throttle body cleaner into the TB and that should take care of your problem.
thanks for the reply i took it in to ford and they diagnosed it as the pcv valve that made it stick becuse moisture was freezing in it
also have to replace o2 sensors thanks agian
moisture freezing in your pcv made the throttle stick? i don't get it. remember reading here a while back that if it sticks when you just start up it means that the throttle body is either dirty or worn.
Apparently the PCV can cause throttle body icing due to PCV "backflow". At least that's what the TSB says
They came out with heated PCV and insulated PCV systems to cure it.
i had the same problem, so i looked at the throttle body too,
when i took the air hose off there was a warning label on
tb that said not to spray any cleaner inside, that there is a
special coating on inside. so i just wiped the gunk off the
throttle butterfly with a cloth and it isn't sticking anymore.
my wifes explorer is doing it too only when egine is running,
i thought it had something to do with vacumn.
so i am going to check the pcv like you all are saying.
Since around 1990, I think, Ford has recommended not using any cleaner inside the throttle body. I've heard there are cleaners that wont harm the coating though. I like to just wipe it out with a dry rag.
ifish what year is your wife's Exploder? What size engine? There was a TSB or recall on sticky throttle's a while back. They seem to be hard to press initially and then ok after that. The fix is to replace the throttle body.
dave, you mentioned a possible recall for sticky throttles. i have a '97 e150 with a 5.4. the throttle sticks whenever it's parked for a while, then fine once you unstick it. i usually rev the engine a couple times before i put it in gear to unstick it. the kid's gave me grief for the jack rabbit starts before i started doing that. if there's a recall, i didn't get a notice.
I have also noticed the throttle sticks on really cold days if the truck has been sitting for overnight or 8 to 10 hours, but it is fine after first touch this on a 2000 F-150 I just bought a month ago
