I purchased my 04 right after release. After reading about the problem, I took the truck with 59,000 miles to the dealer for plug change and other work. The quote was $700 something. 5 out of 7 plugs failed. Luckily the factory rep was in the shop when they started work and all was covered under warranty. It did take 3 days. My neighbor liked my truck so much he went and bought one. His truck has 93,000 miles on it when he asked his shop to due a 100,000 mile service. That cost him $1700.00 and they said they cut him a lot of slack.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

We all have opinions, so mind would be to have the dealer change the plugs and offer to pay for them. Piece of mind does cost something.<o></o>

Yeah i read about it all over on ford forums so i went out and took care of my 5.4 04 to clean it up then put it back in...to avoid become stucks in!
My truck has 25K on it thats when i cleaned the spark plugs..will do it again next 25K.
Just for extra insurance...unless if theres some good company new releaae special spark plugs for 5.4!
YOMAN!
How bad did yours look and were they hard to get out??? Am thinking I will have the dealer do mine at about 30K as I am not a master tech just an oil changer.
Answer me one question since 04 ford had probably sold in excess of 3 million 5.4 engines and they know they have a head problem and will not do a thing about it why is this?? Also I did check mine at 32K every plug is showing rust and corrosin build up and ford says you don't even need to look at them for 100K if you have any answers would like to hear them????
My dealer replaced my plugs under warranty. But that required me 1stly pulling my plugs and looking at them. Then driving to the dealer and having them check them. I think at of problems could be resolved by just doing alittle work. Ford is not goingto come to the house and fix your truck. Yes these trucks has the 100k mile tune ups but brother if there is a problem its time to get outside and fix it. Thats all we can do right now. It might not be right, it might not be fair, but by god you could have a good set of plugs in your heads at no cost to you.
I dont know the answer to your question no more than you know the answer to the question of why did chevy dodge the push rod problem? I dont think there is anything wrong with you going and buying a chevy as i've said before somebody has to drive them. Dont just talk about it and beat up on ford and still be driving a ford. go by the damn thing already and make yourself happy. I drive a ford cause i like them. I believe in them. I can buy what ever i want, i live in America so nobody tells me what i have to buy. If i thought i would be happier with a chevy i would buy one.
I sit on this chair one hand on the keyboard plucking out this oath, the other on the bible. I WILL PUSH MY FORD ON A FREEZING, RAINY, WINDY, NIGHT UP HILL, BEFORE I DRIVE A CHEVY.

Who said that???????Exiled.
I don't expect ford to come to my house and fix anything but when I spend $30K for a truck I do expect it to be what they tell me it is and I can't get **** from my dealer except all is good and within ford specs but I am going to take your advice and see if I can get them to change mine under warranty???

I dont know what you expect. You say you have'nt pulled your sparkplugs but yopu feel there can be something wrong. And your right there very well can be. But this is the dealer we're talking about here. Your wantingto tell them you THINK something is wrong. There goingto back out the best way they can. But mind you if you pull your plugs, and theres something wrong with them, under warranty they pretty much have to cover it. I lightly use the word HAVE to. You might have to force their hand. I did'nt. I simply had talked with them a couple times wanting mine checked. I had read on here that there was a TSB on the subject i guess the info was wrong at the time. So heck i pulled them myself sure enough they had aready had good corrosion on them. Which makes them faulty in craftmanship"the main thing that the warranty covers".
I'm not trying to defend the dealer but how many vechiles do you think they get with complaints that stem from just the owner had heard someone else had this problem so they think they have it? All i'm saying is if you think somethings wrong and the dealer wont look at it, get your hands dirty, check for yourself, and if you have a problem and go to the dealer and you can point it out no guessing just as sure as your standing there you bet they are going to take notice. No i dont think this is how it should be, but what can you we do? Do you really believe that chevy is with out problems? They got their problems also.

Not too bad...it has some rusty look on the (spark plug) metal tube bottom so i cleaned it, i think its carbon thing that building rusty look.
No its not hard to take it out but i was nervous LOL! I let engine to warm up a bit then use long bar to loose 1/8 turns then LIGHTY tight 1/8 turns then loose again and it came out fine..
Hey guys, I have an 05 Fx4, With 133000kms, does this whole spark plug issue continue into the 05's with 5.4L, I also heard there is new type of plug, any info on this?
