So it rained today and I had my radio down decently low and noticed something new. Whenever my windsheild wipers first start to go from their stopped position to their moving position, I can hear a slight click from what sounds like under the dash behind the instrument panel.
Is it normal? I've not yet had the chance to take either of the two other trucks to see if they make the same noise, but they're GMs so I can't expect them to make the same noise a Ford makes.
If it's normal than good, but if it's not I want to get it fixed before it starts raining in Texas again.
Mine does it when the wipers are on intermittent, but not on steady-on. For this reason, I tend not to use the fastest intermittent setting; I put them on slow instead.
*Somewhat related question: the wiper blades on my truck are the same size as were on it when I got it (I grabbed 'em off my mothers Explorer before we traded it, so I didn't check the fitment book), 18" I think. When the wipers are on the highest setting, the passenger one hits the bottom of the windshield frame when it goes down. I'm hesitant to adjust it since it sits pretty horizontal when parked. Other people's trucks do this too? Bad enough that I should fix it with a slightly high passenger wiper, or just ignore it?
Yeah...I seem to remember my passenger one sitting what I would classify as low on the windsheild and slightly on the trim at the bottom. I'll double check tommorow.
Mine only does it on intermittent as well, as long as it's normal then good, one less thing to worry about. Thanks!

Try lifting the wiper of the windshield, then move the arm back and forth to see how much play it has. If it has significant play, then the bushings in the control arms may be warn, or even missing.
I have a 93 ranger that the wipers click on no matter what speed setting they are on and when they go to the "park" position my radio will shut off momentarily will replacing the relay solve the clicking problem and the whole radio thing cuz it has been raining here for about a week and this is bugging me
I'm sure you're just hearing the relay. Yes they all make a little noise but tend to get a little louder as they age. Or maybe you just never noticed it before because you always had the radio up loud
