I Sand drag race my trucks (300 ft). Home track is West Michigan Sand Dragway (for 2007 season schedule: http://www.sanddragways.com/) and a couple of local tracks my friends have in thier back yards (no real schedule yet!!). Check out my gallery for set up and pics. -Ed
Pacemakers- 1/8 mile concrete out at Mt. Vernon Oh. is where me and my buddies put our "money where our mouth is" My 76 is UNDEFEATED against my friends' trucks. My buddies WRX kicked my butt though.
I run my Maverick out of www.luskvilledragway.com and soon my F100 will see duty there also...when it is all together! Luskville dragway is about 45 minutes from Ottawa on the Quebec side.
Used to run my 71 Mercury Comet at Lewistown dragway in central Montana, now there is a sanctioned NHRA track in Billings, but no longer have the car,but I know they run a few trucks there.I'm up in Kalispell now (N.W.Montana) and the closest drag facility I know of is Spokane Washington.I'd like to hear about your Maverick as they were similar cars.My Comet was hell on wheels with the 429 in it,had to hack the hell out of the engine compartment to get that bugger in there, had no heater or even windshield wipers, had to weld everything new to get shock towers and engine mounts, but it was fun.oh yeah we made a square box frame that connected the two frames together, had a hell of a time keeping exhaust on it due to over zealous speed bumps. One night I had to much to drink, and had my buddy drive me home,he was completely sober but was smoking the tires at a stop light with a 5.0 Mustang beside him and they took off racing which he obviously won but the cops got involved and he tried to get away and was doing over 100 mph when he hit a ditch on a deadend road, killed 2 people in the car and the guy in the front passenger got all messed up. Let me know your stories-John
The Maverick is a 306 cu in with D0OE 351 Windsor heads, 194 int 160 exh valves port and polished to gaskets and Vic jr intake! Has run 12.06 at 110 mph...lots of fun wheels in the air...and this with a standard traction bar!!!
I am trying to make the F-100 run a comparable set of numbers!
F.F. I had custom made laddr bars made by a shop in billings,mt.I can't remember their name but they were on Cerise rd and were advertised as a machine shop, they also helped me with squeezing the engine in,and were Ford fanatics. They had a guy named Lonnie who was an expert at fabrication and welding.I'm gonna say L&h machine shop but don't quote me on that,it's been many years. I'm not sure how members feel about discussing side topics,if they don't mind we can continue this here otherwise e-mail me.John
I drag race in the Northwest, mainly at Mission Raceway and Eagle Motorplex in BC Canada, and Bremerton & Kent Wasahington, with occasional trips to Woodburn Oregon. I have 2 race cars, a 1985 5.0 Mustang that I race in NHRA Stock Eliminator, and a 1978 Fairmont with a 428Cobra Jet. Both cars have a Jerico 4 speed. The Mustang has ran a best of 12.31ET @107mph, the Fairmonts best is 10.20@131.5mph. I did run my 74 F350 car hauler once, just for laughs, but with a mild 390, truck 4 speed, and weighing in at 6700 lbs, it was NOT very quick! Ran mid 19`s
