The Arvin was one of many aftermarket makers of heaters in the 50's. Sears, Montgomery Ward, JC Whitney, Western Auto, etc made them or offered them. The factory ones were either a recirculating style or Fresh Aire heaters. The recirculating ones had a 2 cable and switch control and used the air from the cab to heat it. The Fresh Aire one used outside air that entered on the passenger side thru a tube that bolted above the headlamp and entered on the side of the cab. It had a 3 cable and switch control in a triangular formation and also a water temp valve mounted just above the heater box. The 48-50 ones were pretty much the same and the 51-52 versions had different cables and mounting plate for the control. The heater units were different, but could be used in any of the 48-52 years. The factory heaters usually had "FORD" on them somewhere. I've found quite a few different aftermarket ones in all the trucks I've parted.
