Hi every one.
What is the deal with all the rust on every bolt, bracket, driveline and trailer hitch???? I have a 2000 EX. with 50,000 miles always kept clean with full body and underside car wash. Kept in garage all the time. I don't drive it in the summer so its in the garage at that time. I have been a long time FORD owner and drag racer with many over the years. I have never seen anything on any of my other vehicles. I also have 2 Suburbans that are a 99 and 96. Every part on both of them are rust free, and they have twice the miles on them. I even have the A/C lines under the EX are bad. they leak from where the corrsion is. Did FORD have a call back on this or are we supposed to just forget about it. I have a 84 F250 that is used just to hale stuff and is out side all the time,as well as a 84 E350 Ambulance that is in better shape and they both are drivin on gravel roads. Also the call back for the cruise that came in the mail, has anybody had that done yet?
Thanks
Jim
I'm glad I'm not alone here. The underside of my Excursion is the same, so much so that I was suspect of it having been in a flood. It seems anything water comes in contact with instantly develops a nice coat of surface oxidation.
My 95 F150 and both of my Grand Prixs don't suffer from the same problem.
This rust is not from climate of road salt. I am also in the manufacturing buisness and find this on many of the vendor purchased parts. It's poor finish. None of my six vehicles have this.
Thanks
In my case it's road salt. My 2000 X was spotless underneath until early 2004. Then we moved from Tampa to Bloomington, IN. After one winter here I have the same surface rust that Jim describes.
hey jim, if you say that its poor finish and you are in the "manufacturing business", then you should be more than capable of refinishing everything right? it seems that in your first post, you did not have a reason on why there is any rust, now you are 100% sure that its poor finish?? whatever the business you are in, its the climate and road salt that is doing that. reguardless of what you say, you can ask just about anyone, 99.9% of the time, the entire underside of a vehicle will not just rust out.
hitch. leaf springs, shocks, and most everything else under is rusty looking.
i'm guessing road salt, etc.
i drive on some dirt roads, but nothing that i would consider off roading.
had it since new in 02 so if it was flooded it was while ford or the dealer owned it but i doubt that.
So why are the other vehicles we own including other older fords do not have this problem? I have gone to the lots around town and found the same thing on the 2000 to 2004 Excursions. I was just under my 99 Sub. last night to replace the u-joints and there is still no sign of rust and that units just turned over 91,000 miles and owned since new. The 96 we have is the same way. It still has all the lables and tags on the parts under the unit. It looks like new. Just can't pull itself like the v10 Excursion. Well thanks. At least I am not bias.
