Need Buying Advice
I have been in the market for another EX. I have an 02 EX in Mint cond. and would like to get another one as my Co. Car (Impala) is just getting too small for our family.
I found a 2001 EX Limited. It is black. The dealer wants 12,990 for it.
Here are the specs:
94,500 miles on the V-10
4R100 Tranny (I think it is the original one)
Tan Leather
Back Up sensors
CD
Problems with the EX:
Rotors Warped badly
Drivers side hub is frozen..May come loose with Wd-40, but not sure
Missing the 3rd row bench seat
Drivers Seat is in rough shape. Leather is cracked and torn
Master Cylinder is leaking somewhere as there is brake fluid leaking out of it.
All 5 door lock actuators are very very slow to work, probably need to be r/r
4x4 works, but when in 4 low, the trucks lunges abit??
Cracked W/S
Some scratches and door dings
Shocks worn out
Everything else seems to work well. The V-10 is smooth and shifts fine.
The coolant has just been flushed.
The prior owner left most of the EX's records for service in the glove box and it looks like the EX has been serviced every 4-5k at an Instant Valvoline place in OH. The prior owner always had 5w20 oil, pyroil engine flushes done, fuel treatments done, air filters, pwr steering flushes, ft and rear diff's flushed 2x's in 94,500 miles.
The undercarriage looks good. Not too much rust..It looks like it was garage kept.
I offered the dealer $7,500 for it as I explained all of the problems with it as he knew I drove a EX as I drove it to the dealership. He went back and talked with his MNGR and he said the lowest he would go was $9,995.00. I gave him my bus. card and let him know I would pay $7,500 cash.
Let me know what you guys think about this EX.
How much $$ would you guesstimate it would take to get her back in GOOD working order.
Thanks,

I think it would be worth about $8500 as is at the most. JMHO. 94.5K is not many miles at all.
If you want all the grief of the fix it up you might try to meet in the middle...but I highly doubt your gonna have luck with the 7500 is all you will go offer
I would keep looking based on the bad rotors, frozen hub and 4x4 issues alone
For example: Total budget for a new/Used Ex is $12,000. If you could find another Ex for that amount without all the work needed, then go for it. However, if you think you can purchase this Ex for $8000 or whatever, then the difference can be applied to fixing her up. And you might still make it under your budget.
It is a game of chance, but if your budget allows for more money than $7500, then try finding another Ex in better mechanical shape.

My dad had a new fake lether bottom put on his truck and it was like $150 installed. I put new rotors on my truck and i think they were about $100 a piece and easy to install. Not sure about 3rd seat, check ebay. Check master cyl cruise control turn off. Mine leaked untill it tried to catch itself on fire, $20 to fix it. Not sure about 4x4. Wont your ins. pay for a new winsheild? Mine was around $450. Buy a set of bilstiens for $220.

I really appreciate all of your input. I have $7,500 cash right now. I think the seats and the hubs could wait for a little while. I would get the rotors and brakes done in my driveway for just the part price for powerslot rotors and hawk pads..I'm just not sure about that Master Cylinder. The brakes seemed to work just fine (except for the vibration of the rotors).
The tranny seemed to shift flawlessly and it has been flushed out at least 3x's from the prior owners records.
I'm 10 months from paying off my 02 EX. It is a V-10 XLT with 30,500 on it. It is Mint. I just LOVE my EX and am looking for another one to add to my fleet.
My wife thinks I'm crazy!! I go crazy for that V-10 VROOM at start up and the empty gas tank VROOM..VROOM..VROOM..sound..It really does sound better on an empty tank of gas..
I can't get enough of it..
I'm internet searching for a mecahnically more sound EX right now..Will let you all know soon..
