New Exhaust Question

I just installed my 4" MBRP Turbo back exhaust this morning and an really happy with it. I plan on getting a delete pipe.

On to the question: I ran it around for a while then checked the bolts and noticed some black oil type liquid coming out of the joints. Is this normal is this a problem? Should I be concerned?

Also, how tight is tight enough for the DP clamp.

Did you use a lubricant on the pipes when you assembled the exhaust?

Torque values are worthless on marmon clamps. Tighten it only enough to take any "wiggle" out of the t-bolt and leak check it. Only snug it up further if it's leaking.

Exhaust

I did not use any lubricant when I assembled the new. Only thing I used was WD-40 to get the old DP loose from the Turbo, doubt that is it. There is only a little bit of this coming out. Very little. Just enough to notice.

Something else that is a bid wierd is the sound of the truck when I turn it off. It almost sounds like the motor knocks as it comes to a stop. Has anyone else noticed any sounds such as this after the installation of new exhaust. Maybe it is just more audiable because of the bigger exhaust???

Give it a couple of days to see if the mystery fluid burns off before you worry about it.

The engine does rock when you shut it off. Your downpipe might be bumping the frame when that happens.

DP Knock

It appears as thought the DP is knocking the frame. I am going to attempt to shift it all a little bit.

Fixed

Well I loosened all the hardware and tried pulling, twisting, torking, hammering, kicking, and swearing, then finally I think I got the DP to twist a tad. Well I tightened everthing back up and no more knocking. We'll have to see if it holds!

Thanks for the help.

i have a 4" muffler delete pipe laying around the shop if you want it, you can have it. i had a muffler delete and it does me no good now with stacks. it is a few inches longer than the muffler as my muffler flange was crimped on to the pipe in front of it, so i had to cut it at the flange. i used Accu-seal clamps to make a secure butt-connection and it worked fine. let me know if you want it.

A couple of months ago when I went to the 4" turbo back system (no muffler) I dripped black oil for a few hundred miles. Now, 6,000 miles later have no drips at all. Where it came from in the first few hundred miles is still a mystery to me. I flat out love mine and wonder why anyone would bother with a muffler at all.
