I lease a 2003 4x4 Excursion with the 6.0 and am thinking of buying the vehicle. It has 61,000 miles and for the most part has been reliable. I have been led to believe that the engine has a lifespan of approximately 200,000 so that buying the vehicle sounds like a good idea. I was wondering what the rate of problems is after 100,000 miles.
To many variables for anyone to give an answer to that question. Depends on how the truck is maintained, whether it is abused or not, etc... I would think if you have not had any problems with it then it will probably be a good vehicle for you as long as the maintenance is performed religiously. Like dad always said "take care of it and it will take care of you". For some this may not be entirely true but for every truck I have ever had (all Fords) this has been 100% true.
International Harvester thinks the VT365 (The building block for the 6.0) is good for at least 300K if you go by the maintenance schedule. The 6.0L as we know it is pretty darn close to being an International VT365. Same block, different software just about sums it up.
