stereo upgrade

hi i have a 04 x limited am looking to upgrade the stereo but dont want to loose the factory features(stering controls/backseat controls) i dont have the dvd option.i've already added the pie input adaptor for my laptop/satellite radio.

right now the radio sound quality is marginal at best but the cd/cddj-input seem to be better.i'm thinking of a big 100w rms kicker amp then some new speakers.anyone have any ideas on what i should get??
i'm thinking of some infinity kappas components 50.7cs for the front doors and the same for the back doors then some 6x8 woofers for the rear cargo area.the amp is 2 ohm stable so i would run the rear door and cargo speakers in parallel.

anyone have any ideas?? maybe only one set of components and a set of 6x8"S in the rear doors???
thanks
pete
ps anyone know how to set the speed sensitive setting on the radio??

I have a 2004 Ex LTDand don't think the original radio came with speed sensitive feature, but it sounded like dogie doo. Changing the stock speakers will make a big improvement, but I feel that you will eventually need a new head unit. The conversion units to allow you to keep your steering wheel control when you add a new HU only allow either the wheel or the rear seat to work, not both. I haven't heard if anyone has used two of these modules and got both controls to work. Don't forget, you have 3 sets of speakers, front door, rear door and front of rear quarterpanel. Stock, they are all the same 6x8 size.

anyone have one of the double din radios installed with the large screen and still using the steering wheel controls/backseat controls??

PAC and several other manufs make kits to retain oem controls when using an aftermarket head unit.

I have a superduty and am looking at 2 sets of 5.25" components. MBquart, Rockford, Polk, and Boston Acustic for the components. I like MB quart and rockford power amps. I also plan on upgrading my 10" to a pair of 12". I really think the double din touch screens will fit with a little work.

As for the rear controls, PAC says that you can use a second steering interface module and get the controls to work (It does on my 03). For the speakers I have Focal Utopia component speakers that make a world of difference as long as you run an amp. They are very pricey ($1000+ a pair) but well worth it for good sound. Personally I run JL subs and amps. Any double din will fit in the dash with a mounting kit but you will still need to trim a little around the hole. I have a DD with an Alpine IVA-D901 screen (single din) and a single din center channel speaker from Focal. Everything is controled via a dolby digital processor. The best mod that I have ever done in the interior was placing dynomat everywhere. The X now runs quieter than any cadillac and mercedes out there.

I hope this helps.

Your mention of Dynomat caught my attention. What is this stuff? Are you talking about some kind of carpeting and headliner material? How much did this cost you?

going to do this next weekend if all go's well.

ordered 2 sets of kappa 60.7 components one for the front doors and one for the back doors.thinking of mounting the tweeters on the a pillers or maybe sticking them in the upper corners of the windshield with some two sided tape.dont think i'll need the second set if tweeters but who knows??
thinking of looking for some mid-bass 6x8's for the rear cargo area.

anyone know how the rear speakers are wired from the radio??are there 3 sets of outputs,or only 2? as the fader adjusts the rear 4 and front 2 are there seprate wires for all the speakers at the radio??

will be sticking with the stock head unit for now but am going to prep for a new head unit by running all the preamp wires while i'm at it
thanks
pete
